Server Update #2

I got a 500GB hard drive for my brithday from my parents. Installed this into the server, sat back and basked in the 1.16 Terabytes of storage I have in the system. Well, not exactly, 160GB is from the 'dead' (more on this later) disk, and 500 GB is actually going to be 250, as one 250 GB disk will be used as a mirror so I don't go through this down time again.

After installing the new drive, and rearranging all the other disks to sit in front of a new case fan, i decided to boot up the system with the old 'dead' disk to see if time off made it work again. Well, what do you know, it booted just fine. I was able to backup everybodys home accounts and the databases/websites that I figured would be lost. Since I don't trust the disk at all, it'll be a while still to have the system completely back up, but recovering the websites and peoples home dirs. is definately a plus.

So, I think th plan will be, 2x250GB disks (as a raid 1 array, so 250GB total storage) as the system disk, and the new 500 GB disk as movie/tv storage for mythtv. The most important data (music) will be on the raid array for protection.
