At long last....

it's back...

It's not all there yet, but mostly everything recovered. I'm focusing on getting mythtv setup, but figured I'd fix up the holycalamity site.

I think that there's actually a utility that can import blogger blogs into wordpress, so we can take everything back with us.

Unless...we prefer to stay here?

Cheers.

Robots again

In The Know: Are We Giving The Robots That Run Our Society Too Much Power?

Chuck's short (but angry) take on the state of the world today

More and more these day's I am finding myself out of whack with what appears to be the majority of the planet. There are many thing these days that happen that totally baffle me. I am befuddled. Maybe somebody here can offer me some affirmation that I am not completely insane.

Danish newspapers reprint controversial Prophet Muhammad cartoon

They did this to re-assert and affirm their freedom of speech.

I'll start by asserting my freedom of speech...........

The Danish are fucking idiots. Those filthy, filthy Danes with their stinky, stinky cheese and their stupid hats. Bastards.

From others experiences, I have learnt that portraying peoples gods, knowing that images of such gods are considered blasphemous, appear to make people riot. Especially if the images themselves are insulting to an entire religion. As such, it would seem to me, that printing such material, again, probably isn't such a good idea. Specially since we've already seen the results. It's kinda like shooting yourself in the foot, immediately after having just done so.

Bush defends US record on Darfur

George Bush, George fucking Bush. Fuck.

This is wrong on so many levels.

How can this man sit there with a straight face when asked "whether America still occupied the moral high ground after Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay" and answer "Absolutely, We believe in human rights and human dignity. We believe in the human condition. We believe in freedom." Some sort of arms-length worldwide organization should be set up to stab people in the face when they say such stupid things.

As a human being, I cannot comprehend what kind of corruption it takes for someone to actually believe themselves when saying something like this. I couldn't do it. Stating such a broad face lie would throw me into some strange convulsive fit where my hands, in fists as though holding a knife or other sharp object, would flail wildly towards my face.

The level of hypocrisy is astounding. To suggest that he "remind him (Hu Jintao) that he can do more to relieve the suffering in Darfur" Yet They decide not assist in Sudan or Kenya because they do not want to occupy yet another Muslim state, and saying in the next breath that they have a "firm, heartfelt commitment to the continent of Africa"??? I can barely refrain from smashing the keyboard in front of me to tiny pieces in a fit of rage.

Obviously it was our fault for not reminding Bush enough that there was more he could do to stop the suffering of the Lebanese people, such as telling Isreal to stop bombing them.

Quebec language police nab Montreal bar for vintage posters

No to bilingualism, yes to more English: PQ leader

Ok, with all the shit going on in the world today, do we seriously have time for this?!?! Seriously?!?! This year is the 245 anniversary of France losing the war and signing the Treaty of Paris which resulted in the French colony of Canada being handing over to the British. That’s the problem with the French, especially the French Canadians, They can't accept defeat. It's been almost 250 years and they are still trying to suggest Quebec is a sovereign French nation. In reality it is, it's part of the sovereign country on Canada. Fucking douche bags. LEARN ENGLISH YOU POUTINE EATING FREAKS!!!

Gunman kills six at US university

Another mass killing?!? what a shocker. It doesn't even phase me anymore. Its almost as if its becoming a trend. Does that bother anyone else?

Kenya's dubious election

Is there any doubt in anybody's mind that this election was rigged? Any doubt at all? As a semi-intelligent person, I find it offensive that someone would even suggest otherwise. Not to mention the fact that doing so has cost over 600 lives. I mean, would you be willing to be responsible for that many deaths just to keep your job? I guess that would be a question to ask once one of us becomes president of a small African nation, or any other nationa as a matter of fact.

Gloves off at US baseball hearing

Clements did steroids?? WHO THE FUCK CARES?!?!?!??!?!?!

'Choking game' sparks warnings

Has it really come to the point where we have to tell our children not to choke themselves? Really?!? Man, you wanna get high? Smoke a fucking joint. Jesus. Stupid kids. Seriously

Gossip blogger Perez Hilton hit with $7.6M US lawsuit

Finally! It's about time somebody did something about this retarded little twerp, regardless of who it is. Although, I'd probably be happier if someone shot him. Why couldn't he have been in NIU?

So, has the world gone crazy? or is it just me?

Fuck this

Not sure if I told you guys about this or not, but a couple of years back this dude started an art project where people would print stickers with the word FUCK on them, then place them on signs and take pictures of them. Now he's turning it into a book. Not sure if I'd sort through a whole book of the stuff, you kinda get the idea after the first few, but it still made me chuckle.

Macbook Air.

I think this might tip the scale for me. I'm finally considering buying a Mac. Seriously, the thing is 3/4" thick. It's thinner then my phone.

Mixed reality robot!!

sadly my first thought was "Oh my god, this could revolutionize online gaming!" Then my 2nd thought was "wait... SEX BOTS!!"

B.C. judge rebukes RCMP for executing warrant with guns

And yes, that really is B.C.'s provincial slogan. Sure as hell beats "Spirited Energy"

Some people have a lot of time on their hands

Exactly 5 minutes.

Holodeck vs. The Matrix

Something I though about over breakfast:

As we all know, one creates a virtual world around you, the other creates a virtual world in your mind.

Besides the slightly invasive probe that goes into the back of your skull to enter the matrix, which do you think would win if say, Sony made the holodeck, and Hitachi made the matrix?

Oh yeah, and pretend that the matrix wasn't a battery farm controlled by evil robots, but strictly for pleasure, or at the very least, we're all as kick ass as Neo.

I'm sure we've already had this conversation years ago, but thought I'd throw it out there again.

I think I'd go with the holodeck, you can create any world imaginable, but you're in it while in your body... something comforting about that.

Aleksey Vayner

Has anyone seen this before?

So watching Drunk History led me to Michael Cera's Parody which led me to this. =)

You can also find Aleksey's Resume on Wikipedia a great 7 page pdf. Poor bastard.

I mean, this guy went to Yale...

Has anybody heard of "Speed Painting"?

Well, I haven't, but I'm drinking and watching you tube, and somehow, through the miracle of the site, I went from watching Alf blupers (yeah, well, they're fucking hilarious after a few beers and god knows how I got to watching them in the first place) to this guy's work, and drunk or not, I'm blown away. I know the power of photoshop, the detail and art can be accomplished with the know how, but capturing the process and then putting it to some kick ass music, its damn cool

Drunk History

This is a video that one imagines is making the rounds these days. It is awfully funny; it's a drunk man describing a historical event, while actors recreate the event in accordance with the drunk man's narration. Look for Michael Cera (of Arrested Development/Superbad fame) as Alexander Hamilton. Very funny.

a bit brutal but exciting nonetheless

although any with that wasp is awesome

Nerding it right the fuck up.

So I got a new job, which I hate, so instead of doing work, I scour the internet for useless crap, like this guy who builds laptops and stuff out of things like Xboxs, Old Ataris and Colecos.

I also stumbled upon this World of Warcraft Wiki. Cool, Eh???

I would like to draw your attention to this little gem. Let the good times roll.

I apologize

what do ninja turtles, dancing robots, an Iranian pop singer, and a short clip from "my step mom is an alien" have in common?

they all combine into something that I feel I must apologize for.

it doesn't really start till about 1 minute into the video.
